Reuters reports on web sites that help indie musicians
Dec 30th, 2007 | By thestonewailer | Category: Knee Deep in the Scoop Law(12/30/07) Reuters reported today that five newer web sites are likely to make waves in the indie world next year by helping artists get shows, sales, and song placement on films and TV shows.
And each of the sites are free to use.
Amie Street lets fans pick a price. Songs range from free to 98 cents. The price rises with the number of times it is downloaded.
Sir Groovy networks indie acts and music supervisors, takes care of negotiations and clearances, and allows bands to categorize their tracks in a variety of unusual ways.
Paltalk’s live cameras allow musicians to jam together and perform for fans via the web, without having everyone in the same room.
Indie bands that are apprehensive about turnout on the road will appreciate Eventful, a site that lets fans request performances and organize gigs for their favorite artists.
And OurStage lets fans decide the best new indie entertainment. Each month, the highest-ranking videos face off. The winner is awarded $5,000.
Officially, The Stonewailer is a little blue that it didn’t even receive an honorable mention in the story.
