Celilo in winter bloom

(Portland, 12/19/07) A rainy December weeknight and the candlelit dining room at Imbibe provided a perfect setting for an atmospheric performance by Portland indie/alt-country stalwarts Celilo.
Led by singer-guitarist Sloan Martin along with Damon Dunning (bass, guitar, harmony vocal), Adam East (guitar, bass, harmonica, harmony vocal), Kipp Crawford (drums), Dave Pulliam (keys) and Tucker Jackson (pedal steel), the band waded gently through a pair of lovely sets captured live for The Stonewailer.
The sets feature numerous tracks from the band’s fabulous 2006 LP Homesweet and Leery and its excellent followup, 2007’s The Man Who Owns The Sand. Highlights include “Fly Low,” “Christmas Cash,” “Butterfly” and the sublime “Winter Bloom,” all displaying a command and control that has made Celilo one of the most inspiring, respected and fastest-rising outfits in Portland’s burgeoning alt-country scene.
Listeners should consider this a primer for the band’s upcoming Friday night residency at the Alberta Street Pub all through January. Learn more at www.celiloband.com and www.myspace.com/celilo.
